AIDS Forms the Tally

The African continent has changed dramatically over the 30 years that Wilde has created Aids related work. The statistics are still staggering, especially with pregnant women and children. In Sub-Saharan Africa, 57 percent of people living with HIV/AIDS are women. More than two-thirds (70 percent) of all people living with HIV, 25 million, live in sub-Saharan Africa—including 88 percent of the world's HIV-positive children

AIDS Forms the Tally is a portfolio of three etchings that addresses this issue. The imagery is influenced by my original artworks titled Rising from the Sea of Blood and The Staff of Apollo.

This portfolio of etchings stems from a series of four original drawings that Wilde completed in the 1980's. It reflects the self-doubt we experience as women in our culture to be successful in our careers, relationships, and as mothers. A society that values youth, beauty, and financial success can be brutal to the feminine psyche.
